Vilamoura is where the Algarve keeps its boats: the region’s largest marina, the widest charter fleet — from sports cruisers to proper motor yachts — and skippers who run the golden cliffs towards Falésia and the cave coast daily. If you want a yacht for the day, this is the marina to book from.

A yacht charter in Vilamoura is priced per boat, so the numbers look steep until you split them: a €850 half-day between ten friends is €85 a head — with your own skipper, route and swim stops. Here is what each trip type costs in 2026 and how to pick the right boat.

Insider tip: Vilamoura’s fleet is big enough that boats compete on extras — the same money buys very different inclusions. Compare what’s in the price (drinks, paddleboards, hostess, fuel) before you compare the price itself.

Motor yacht, sailing yacht or catamaran?

Motor yachts cover the most coast per hour and dominate the Vilamoura fleet. Sailing yachts trade speed for calm — better for a slow afternoon than a cave run. Catamarans carry the biggest groups with the most deck space; if that’s your party size, see our luxury catamaran charter guide.

Where the boat goes

Most charters head west: past Falésia’s red cliffs towards Albufeira’s grottoes, with the long full-day runs reaching the Benagil cave coast. Dolphins turn up on any of these routes — skippers will divert when a pod appears. Agree the route when you book and adjust it on the day.

When to book

The season runs April to October. For July and August book a few weeks ahead — Vilamoura has the most boats in the Algarve, but it also has the most demand, and the best skippers go first. Shoulder months (May, June, September) get near-identical weather at noticeably lower per-boat prices.

How many people fit on a chartered yacht?
Most private motor yachts take 10–12 guests; larger catamarans up to 18. The price is for the whole boat regardless of how many of you board.
Is a skipper included?
Yes — Vilamoura charters are skippered by default, and larger yachts add a hostess or full crew. No boating licence is needed.

On a full-day charter, yes — it's a longer run west. For a shorter Benagil-focused trip, boats from Albufeira or Portimão get there faster.
What is included in the price?
Typically the skipper, fuel and a welcome drink; snorkelling gear is common. Premium drinks and catering are usual upgrades — inclusions vary boat to boat, so check the listing.
Sunset or daytime charter?
Daytime gives swimming and caves; sunset gives the light and the atmosphere at the lowest per-boat price. Celebrations tend to book sunset, families daytime.
How far ahead should I book?
A few weeks for July and August; days is usually fine in shoulder season. The best boats and skippers sell out first in high summer.
