Plan Your Day in the Algarve — Weather-Smart Itinerary

Not sure what to do today? Our AI-powered planner analyses live weather data — temperature, wind, rain, cloud cover and sea swell — then picks the best activities for morning, afternoon and sunset across the entire Algarve.
How it works: Every day at sunrise, our algorithm scores 300+ activities against the latest weather forecast. Each activity is matched to the time slot where it performs best, so you get a ready-made itinerary you can follow or mix-and-match.

How the Planner Picks Your Activities

The planner runs in three steps:

  1. Weather analysis — we pull hourly forecasts (temperature, wind speed, precipitation, cloud cover and wave height) for every municipality in the Algarve from Open-Meteo.
  2. Activity scoring — each of our 300+ curated activities has tolerance thresholds for rain, wind, heat, and sea state. Activities that fail any hard limit (e.g. kayaking in 2.5m swell) are excluded; the rest are scored 0–100 based on how well conditions match.
  3. Slot assignment — the three highest-scoring activities are assigned to morning, afternoon and sunset. Indoor alternatives get a bonus on rainy days; sea-sensitive activities are deprioritised when swell is high.

The result: a balanced day that avoids weather misfires and maximises your time. Backup activities are included in case conditions shift.

Building Your Own Algarve Itinerary

Use the 3-day plan above as a starting point, then customise:

Why Trust This Planner?

We live in the Algarve and have tested every activity in our database. Weather data comes from Open-Meteo (the same source used by professional forecasters) and is refreshed every 6 hours. Activity scores are calibrated against real conditions — if the wind is howling, we won’t suggest a kayak tour. The plan updates automatically at sunrise each day, so what you see always reflects the latest forecast.

How far ahead can I plan?
The planner covers 3 days ahead using forecast data. For today and tomorrow, accuracy is high. Day 3 may shift slightly as the forecast updates. For longer trips (5-7 days), use the planner daily and combine it with our full activities guide for inspiration.
What if the weather changes during the day?
The plan includes backup activities for each day. If conditions shift — say, unexpected rain in the afternoon — check the backups for indoor or sheltered alternatives. The plan refreshes at sunrise, so tomorrow's itinerary will reflect the latest forecast.
Can I customise the plan for my interests?
The planner currently optimises for overall variety (beach, culture, nature, food). For specific interests, use it as a starting point and swap activities from our full Things to Do guide. We're working on interest-based filters for a future update.
Do I need a car for these activities?
Most activities in the Algarve are easiest to reach by car, especially west coast and inland options. Some south coast activities near Lagos, Albufeira and Faro have bus or train connections. We recommend renting a car — see our Faro Airport car rental guide.
Are the suggested activities free?
Many are free (beaches, hiking trails, sunset viewpoints, markets). Paid activities like boat tours, waterparks and wine tastings show a price band (€ to €€€) on the card. Booking links are included where available — some are affiliate links that support this site at no extra cost to you.
Is 3 days enough for the Algarve?
Three days lets you cover beaches, a boat tour, and a cultural day — a solid taster. For a deeper experience including the west coast, food tours and day trips to Monchique or the Ria Formosa, plan 5-7 days. Our planner adjusts daily, so even a short trip gets the best of whatever conditions allow.
